Practical Exam Content
Exam Format
Practical examination demonstrating proficiency operating an Articulating Boom Crane. Candidates must pass both the written and corresponding practical examination within a 12-month period to earn certification.
Skills Tested
- Task 1: Pre-Operational (Shift) Inspection – Demonstrate a pre-use inspection by identifying inspection items and explaining potential deficiencies.
- Task 2: Place Test Weight in Zigzag Start Circle – Lift and accurately position the test weight from Designated Area 1 to Designated Area 2 while maintaining load control and avoiding contact with obstacles.
- Task 3: Negotiate Zigzag Corridor (Forward) – Guide the suspended load through the zigzag corridor, maintain proper chain position, clear the hurdle, and place the load accurately in Designated Area 3.
- Task 4: Negotiate Zigzag Corridor (Reverse) – Return the suspended load through the zigzag corridor in reverse, maintaining chain contact with the ground where required and demonstrating precise load control.
- Task 5: Place Test Weight in Pole Circle – Return the test weight to Designated Area 1 while avoiding contact with the truck, ground, or obstacles and accurately positioning the load.
- Task 6: Safe Shutdown and Securing Procedures – Properly shut down and secure the crane and explain end-of-day equipment securing procedures.
- Task 7: Straight-Line Corridor (Forward) – Lift and maneuver the test weight and chain through a designated straight-line corridor in the forward direction, clearing hurdles and maintaining load control while placing the weight within the designated landing area.
- Task 8: Straight-Line Corridor (Reverse) – Reposition the boom tip as needed and maneuver the test weight and chain through the designated straight-line corridor in reverse while maintaining control and accurately placing the weight within the designated landing area.
